Sister M. Eustace Hanley, IHM

Sister M. Eustace Hanley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, September 5, 1998 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on September 15, 1911 in Brooklyn, New York, and given the name Margaret Rosalie. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Margaret Cody Hanley.  She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1928, made her temporary profession of vows on April 14, 1931, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1935.

Sister Eustace served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1933 to 1934; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA, from 1939 to 1945; St. Michael's School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1950 to 1952; St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA, from 1968 to 1969; Cathedral High School in Scranton, PA, from 1969 to 1971; Pocono Central Catholic High School in Cresco, PA, from 1971 to 1977 and from 1984 to 1987; St. Rita Elementary School in Dundalk, MD; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; Maria Regina High School in Uniondale, NY; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, NY; as well as at schools located in Cresson and Pittsburgh, PA, Baltimore, MD, and New Bern, NC.

Sister Eustace served as a prayer minister on Staten Island, NY, and from 1991 until the time of her death, at the Marian Convent.

She held a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and a Master of Arts degree in theology, both from Marywood College.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Pierce and James Emmet.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, including Sr. Mary Lauren Hanley, CSJ, of Seaford, NY.

The funeral will be Wednesday, September 9 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m.
