Sister M. Rosaleen Dougherty, IHM

Sister M. Rosaleen Dougherty, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, July 11, 1982 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on March 25, 1894 in Exeter, Pennsylvania, and given the name Bridget. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine Englemann Dougherty.  She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1916, received the religious habit on August 2, 1917, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1919.

Sister Rosaleen served as music teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; and St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; as well as at elementary schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Rosaleen served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas, Henry, Eugene, John Joseph, and Maximus (infant), and four sisters, Lena, Anna Murtha, Matilda (infant), and Loretta Sarama.

She is survived by a sister, Teresa McFadden, and a brother, Louis, both of Pittston, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, July 13 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
