Sister Mary Generosa Griffin, IHM
Sister Mary Generosa Griffin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, April 7, 1959 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on November 11, 1878 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and given the name Anne Marie. She was the daughter of the late James Benjamin and Anne Agatha Cooper Griffin. She entered the IHM Congregation on December 8, 1899, received the religious habit on April 16, 1900, and made profession of her vows on April 1, 1902.
Sister Mary Generosa served as a teacher at the following schools: Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1902 to 1903; St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA, from 1903 to 1909; St. Mary-John Elementary Schoolin Cresson, PA, from 1909 to 1919; St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA, from 1940 to 1948; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1948 to 1952; and Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA, from 1952 to 1956.
Sister served as superior and principal at the following schools: St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Ashville, PA, from 1922 to 1924; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1924 to 1926; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA, from 1926 to 1928; and St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA, from 1928 to 1940.
She also served in child care for resident children at St. John's Home in Cresson, PA, from 1909 to 1919.
From 1956 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Generosa served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Archival Remembrance:
This beloved Sister has many claims to our gratitude and prayers for her loyalty to her religious life and to her apostolate of teaching. For fifty-two years she taught in our schools. During ten of these fruitful years, she also faithfully and generously cared for the boys at St. John's Home, Cresson. A few weeks before her holy death, it did not seem probable that God would so soon call Sister Mary Generosa to Himself. Always busy, she was constantly looking around the Marian Convent for more tasks which she felt she was able to do. Her happy, gentle spirit gave joy to all and doubtless heartened those who were less able to be active and busy. In the same gentle manner, she awaited the summons of her divine Bridegroom, whom she had served so faithfully and so well.
