Sister M. Clementine Gallagher, IHM
Sister M. Clementine Gallagher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, January 19, 1917 at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
She was born on August 10, 1862 in Archbald, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of Thomas Gallagher and the late Winifred Pigeon Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 15, 1884, received the religious habit on April 6, 1885, and made profession of her vows on December 21, 1886.
Sister Clementine served as a teacher at St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA, from 1887 to 1916. From 1916 until the time of her death, she taught at St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, where she also served as the superior of St. John's Convent.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh and Henry.
In addition to her father, Thomas, she is also survived by a sister, Catherine, two brothers, John and Joseph, all of Scranton, PA, along with nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be on January 22 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston, PA. Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Pittston. Friends may call the afternoon and evening of January 21 at St. John's Convent in Pittston.

"Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Jan. 19 - Sister Mary Clementine, fifty-four, a member of the Order of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and attached to St. John's convent, Pittston, since August last, died in the Mercy hospital, this afternoon, following a brief illness. Sister Clementine was one of the best known and loved sisters in the order and had been in the sisterhood for thirty-five years. The dead sister in life was known as Mary Gallagher, daughter of Thomas Gallagher, formerly of Carbondale, now a resident of Scranton. Besides her father she leaves one sister, Catherine, and two..."
"Funeral of Sister Clementine Held At Pittston This Morning
Pittston, January 22 -- With Rt. Rev. Bishop Hoban, priests and sisters from all parts of the Scranton diocese present, the Catholic church, to which she consecrated her life more than twenty years ago, this morning paid honor to Sister Clementine, superior of St. John's convent, whose funeral was held from the convent. Bishop Hoban preached the sermon in St. John's church at the close of a solemn high mass. He spoke of the life of Sister Clementine and told of her devotion to religion. The officers of the mass were: Rev. J.J. Coroner, celebrant; Rev. Edward Burke, deacon; Rev. H. J. Ruddy, sub-deacon; and Rev. M. E. Loftus, master of ceremonies.
In the sanctuary were many priests from all parts of the diocese. Relatives of the deceased Sister and Sisters from other convents throughout the two counties occupied seats in the center aisle. The church was thronged with friends of Sister Clementine.
Prior to the church services hundreds of people viewed the body in the convent.
Following the solemn high mass interment was made in St. John's cemetery. The casket was borne by the following: John H. Foy, John Hines, M. W. O'Boyle, Joseph Glennon, John O'D. Mangan, and T. A. Grace.
