Sister M. Marina McGinnis, IHM

Sister M. Marina McGinnis, IHM,  of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, July 20, 1978.

She was born on October 31, 1891, in Jessup, Pennsylvania, and given the name Beatrice. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hannah Barrett McGinnis. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 16, 1910, received the religious habit on August 2, 1911, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1913.

Sister Marina served as an school teacher in the following IHM schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA, from 1913 to 1914; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1914 to 1915 and 1924 to 1926; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1915 to 1923; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1923 to 1924; St. John Elementary School in Pittston, PA, in 1924; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York City, NY, from 1927 to 1928; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1928 to 1941; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1941 to 1943 and 1946 to 1957; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA, from 1943 to 1944; Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY, from 1944 to 1946; and St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1957 to 1970.   

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Marina served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, James and Bernard, and four sisters, Ann Healey, Eleanor, Sister M. Innocent, IHM and Sister Teresa Marie, IHM.

She is survived by two brothers, Thomas and Joseph, and nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
