Sister M. Walburga McCaffrey, IHM

Sister M. Walburga McCaffrey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, January 2, 1957.  

She was born on August 30, 1877 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Havey McCaffrey, She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1904, received the religious habit on December 8, 1904, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1906.

She is preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Joseph.

She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Boyce of Scranton, PA, nieces and nephews, including Sister M. Dorothy McCaffrey, IHM and Sister M. Angelisse Boyce, IHM. 

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.

Archival Reflection:

In God's holy Providence, Sister M. Walburga was called on to suffer several years of disability, which she bore patiently.  Her great faith was plainly manifest in her last hours, as she calmly told the Chaplain that was dying.  In full consciousness and with deep fervor, she prayerfully received the last holy rites.
