Sister M. Colette Murnin, IHM

Sister M. Colette Murnin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, November 5, 1973 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on January 21, 1904 in Vandling, Pennsylvania, and given the name Agatha. She was the daughter of the late James and Mary Ann Melvin Murnin. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1923, received the religious habit on December 27, 1923, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1925.

Sister Colette served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Paul School in Scranton, PA, from 1925 to 1928; St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1928 and 1946 to 1948; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA, from 1928 to 1929; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1929 to 1930; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, from 1930 to 1931; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1931 to 1935; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, from 1935 to 1936 and 1944 to 1946; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore, PA, from 1936 to 1937; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1937 to 1944; Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Elementary School in New York, NY, from 1948 to 1951; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1951 to 1954; Most Holy Rosary in Elementary School Syracuse, NY, from 1954 to 1960; and South Catholic High School in Scranton, PA, from 1960 to 1968.  

From 1972 until the time of her death, Sister Colette served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, William P., James Patrick, and Michael J., and two sisters, Mary and Elizabeth.

She is survived by a sister, Margaretta A. of Vandling, PA, nieces and nephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
