Sister Marie Adele Lynam, IHM

Sister Marie Adele Lynam, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Monday, January 3, 1983, at the Burlington County Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly, New Jersey.

She was born on March 5, 1902 in Altoona, PA, and given the name Rose Mary.  She was the daughter of the late James and Josephine Howell Lyman.  She entered the IHM Congregation on February 28, 1920, received the religious habit on August 2, 1920, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1922.

Sister Marie Adele served as a music teacher at the following schools: St. Cecelia Academy in Scranton, PA, from 1922 to 1925; St. Patrick in Oneida, NY, from 1925 to 1929; St. Patrick in Scranton, PA, from 1929 to 1930; St. Joseph in Williamsport, PA, from 1930 to 1931 and 1953 to 1955; St. John in Pittston, PA, from 1931 to 1933, 1941 to 1943, and 1948 to 1950; St. Cecilia School in Wyoming, PA, from 1933 to 1934; St. Patrick in Olyphant, PA, from 1934 to 1939; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1939 to 1941; St. Bernadine Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1943 to 1948; St. Rosalia in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1950 to 1953; Nativity of Our Lord in Scranton, PA, from 1967 to 1971; St. Mary in Avoca, PA, from 1971 to 1973; and St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA, from 1973 to 1980.

In addition to music lessons, Sister Marie Adele served as a catechetical instructor at St. Hugh Catechetical Center in Hughesville, PA, from 1955 to 1957; St. Peter Catechetical Center in Wellsboro, PA, from 1957 to 1963; and St. Patrick Catechetical Center in Milford, PA, from 1963 to 1967.  

From 1980 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is preceded in death by four brothers, James Leroy, John Raymond, Joseph N., and Francis P., and four sisters, Frances Marie, Adelaide R. Rooney, Margaret M. Jones, and Dorothy E. Delozier.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, January 5 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel.  Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.   Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
