Sister Mary Patrick Burke, IHM

Sister Mary Patrick Burke, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, December 23, 1993 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born June 12, 1904 in Old Forge, PA, and given the name Nora.  She was the daughter of the late Patrick F. and Ann M. Harte Burke. She entered into the IHM Congregation on April 25, 1922, made her temporaty profession of vows on August 15, 1924, and made her final vows on December 8, 1930.

Sister Mary Patrick served as at teacher at the following schools: All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA, from 1924 to 1932; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1932 to 1933; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1933 to 1938; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1939 to 1944; Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Innwood, NY, from 1944 to 1950; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, from 1950 to 1955; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA, from 1955 to 1957; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA, from 1957 to 1958; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1958 to 1961; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1961 to 1970; and Little Flower Elementary School in Bethesda, MD, from 1970 to 1988.

From 1988 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Patrick served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education/English from Marywood College.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
