Sister M. Macrina Crowe, IHM

Sister M. Macrina Crowe, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, May 22, 1988 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on August 16, 1907 in New York, and was the daughter of the late Daniel C. and Kathryn White Crowe.  She entered the IHM Congregation on August 14, 1928, received the religious habit on April 1, 1929, and made profession of her vows on April 14, 1931.

Sister Macrina served as a math and English teacher at the following schools: Dunmore Central Catholic High School in Dunmore, PA; South Catholic High School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA; and St. Rosalia High School in Pittsburgh, PA.  Sister also served as principal and teacher at IHM high schools located in North Carolina.

Having worked in the dean's office at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, for many summers, Sister Macrina was assigned to the registrar's office in 1971, where she ministered to students and faculty over a period of fourteen years.

From 1985 until the time of her death, Sister Macrina served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

Sister Macrina received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and a Master of Science degree in education, both from Duquesne University. She did further graduate study at the University of Pittsburgh, East Carolina College, and at the University of Scranton.

She is preceded in death by three brothers Arthur, Joseph and Walter, and two sisters, Ruth Vlamis and Rita Kammerer.

She is survived by nieces and nephews. 

The funeral will be Thursday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Wednesday afternoon or evening.
