Sister M. Alacoque Kearney, IHM

Sister M. Alacoque Kearney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, January 25, 1958 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on May 5, 1874 in Parsons, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary.  She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ann E. Mahon Kearney. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 15, 1892, received the religious habit on April 3, 1893, and made profession of her vows on July 1, 1895.

Sister Alacoque enjoyed her years of teaching children in our IHM mission schools.

She was a member of a large family which gave five of its children to serve God in religion.  Two sisters, Sister M. Margaret and Sister M. Victoria came to join her in the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.   Another sister, at age sixty-five, entered the Visitandine Order in Wilmington, DE. And a brother, Reverend Richard became a Third Order Regular Franciscan Friar in Altoona, PA.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
