Sister M. Jamesita Lowry, IHM

Sister M. Jamesita Lowry, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, January 16, 2005, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on February 15, 1919 in the Minooka section of Scranton, PA, and given the name Marie.  She was the daughter of the late Martin and Laura Eagan Lowry.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1942, made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1945, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1948.

Sister Jamesita served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary of Mount Carmel in Dunmore, PA from 1945 to 1948; and St. Rose in Carbondale, PA from 1954 to 1966; St. Dominic in Oyster Bay, NY; and at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA, and New York, NY.

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister served as Coordinator of Certification and Certification Testing from 1971 to 1991; Assistant Director of Financial Aid from 1991 to 1994; and office assistant in the Financial Aid Office from 1994 to 1999. 

She also served as a receptionist at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, from 1999 to 2001.

From 2001 until the time of her death, Sister Jamesita served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts Degree in Business Education from New York University.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Monsignor James Lowry, and an infant sister, Ann.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Annette Lowry of Clarks Summit, PA, nieces, a nephew, and cousins. 

The funeral will be Wednesday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow.  Friends may call on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
