Sister Catherine Marie Murphy, IHM

Sister Catherine Marie Murphy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, October 7, 1966 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on February 28, 1894 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Catherine Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Catherine Leonard Murphy. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 30, 1919, received the religious habit on August 2, 1919, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1921.

Sister Catherine Marie served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1921 to 1927; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1927 to 1928 and 1931 to 1945; St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1928 to 1930; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, from 1930 to 1931; Cathedral in Scranton, PA, from 1945 to 1946; St. Raymond Elementary School in Lynbrook, NY, from 1946 to 1957; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ, from 1958 to 1960; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD; and Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
