Sister M. Bertha Grady, IHM

Sister M. Bertha Grady, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Tuesday, March 16, 1993 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on May 22, 1901, in Scranton, PA, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann Miller Grady. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1918, received the religious habit on August 2, 1918, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1920.

Sister Bertha taught primary and intermediate grades at the following schools: St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA; as well as at elementary schools located in Cresson, PA, and New Bern, NC.

From 1973 until the time of her death, Sister Bertha served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Phillip, a sister, Sabina O'Connor, and a half-sister, Margaret Regan.

She is survived by a nephew, Phillip Grady of Endwell, NY, and a half-sister, Veronica Regan, who resides at Holy Family Residence in Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 18 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Maria Convent Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon.
