Sister Ann Ryan, IHM

Sister Ann Ryan, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Sebastian) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on October 14, 2004 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of Patrick J. and Nellie E. McHale Ryan, she was born on December 21, 1913 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. She was educated in the Dunmore public elementary and high schools she later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bloomsburg University, and a Master of Arts degree from Marywood University.  She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1940, received the religious habit on August 2, 1940, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1942.

Sister Ann served as a teacher at the following schools: Most Holy Rosary Elementary and High Schools in Syracuse, NY; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary and High Schools in Pittsburgh; St. Alphonsus High School in New York, NY; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton; and St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Reverend Joseph and William.

She is survived by brother, Reverend John Ryan of Marquette, Michigan; three sisters, Sister Mary Ryan, IHM, residing at Cathedral Convent in Scranton; Sister Venard Ryan, residing at the IHM Center in Scranton; and Florence Ryan, of Clarks Summit. 

The mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 18 at 4:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent. Interment will be in the Ryan Family Plot at St. Catherine's Cemetery in  Moscow, Pennsylvania.  Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Marian Convent.
