Sister M. Rose Teresa Layden, IHM

Sister M. Rose Teresa Layden, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, May 4, 1984 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on September 3, 1906 in New York, NY. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Mannion Layden. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.

Sister Rose Teresa served as a music teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, NY; and St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA. She also served in schools located in New York City, and Pittsburgh, PA.

From 1980 until the time of her death, Sister Rose Teresa served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

She is survived by several nieces.

The funeral will be Monday, May 7 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Sunday afternoon or evening.
