Sister Marya Foley, IHM
Sister Marya Foley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, February 13, 1995 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on August 28, 1924 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late John P. and Madeline Dougherty Foley. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1950, made first profession of her vows on August 2, 1950, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1955.
Sister Marya served as a business teacher at the following schools: St. Agnes High School in Baltimore, MD; Mount Holly Regional School in Mt. Holly, NJ; St. Alphonsus Commercial School in New York City; Monsignor McHugh High School in Cresco, PA; Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton, PA; Maria Regina High School in Uniondale, NY; Bishop O'Reilly High School in Kingston, PA; and Holy Cross High School, Delran, NJ.
Sister also served as the director of postulants for the IHM Congregation, from 1968 to 1971, where she influenced the lives of many sisters.
From 1988 until the time of her death, Sister Marya served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business education from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in business education from New York University.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret Foley of Scranton, PA, and nine nieces and nephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Sister Marya Foley, most remembered for her goodness, compassion, joy and laughter, died on February 13, 1995. Sr. Marya left a living legacy in the Congregation and among the many parishes where she ministered. From 1968 to 1971, she served as the Director of Postulants for the IHM Congregation and influenced the lives of many sisters. She also served as a business teacher at schools located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. For the last seven years of her 40 years in religious life, she resided at the Marian Convent, where she died.
