Sister M. deLourdes Makstutis, IHM

Sister M. deLourdes Makstutis, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, December 10, 1998 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on May 29, 1911 in LaSalle, Illinois, and given the name Margaret J. She was the daughter of the late Casimir and Mary Letkusky Makstutis. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 5, 1928, made temporary profession of her vows on August 2, 1930, and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1934.

Sister deLourdes served as a teacher at elementary schools in located Williamsport and Pittsburgh, PA.

Sister deLourdes served as a clinical pediatrics instructor at St. Joseph's Children and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA, from 1949 to 1950; nursing arts instructor at St. Joseph Hospital in Carbondale, PA, from 1950 to 1954 and 1959 to 1969; director of pediatric nursing at St. Joseph's Children and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA, from 1954 to 1959; geriatric nurse at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1969 to 1973 and 1975 to 1986; and pediatric nurse at the Catholic Child Center in Hollidaysburg, PA, from 1973 to 1975.

From 1986 until the time of death, Sister deLourdes served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Marywood College. She also received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing education, and Master of Science degree in nursing education, both from Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Sister Casimir Francis Makstutis, OSF, Sr. Hortense Anne Makstutis, OSF, and Sister Casimir Anne Makstutis, OSF, and a brother, Anthony Charles.

She is survived by three nephews, Don Mustunis of Garden City, MI, and Anthony Makstutis and Joseph Makstutis both of Detroit, MI, three nieces, Mary Casszia of Detroit, MI, Barbara Kolesar of Sterling Heights, MI, and Sylvia Prieskorn of Leslie, MN, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, December 15 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
