Sister M. Dolorita Maloney, IHM
Sister M. Dolorita Maloney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, May 2, 1959 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on April 5, 1876 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and given the name Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Walker Maloney. She entered the IHM Congregation on May 1, 1901, received the religious habit on April 1, 1902, and made profession of her vows on April 30, 1904.
Sister Dolorita served as a teacher at the following schools: IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID; St. Joseph Elementary School in Spokane, WA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; St. Thomas Regional School in Providence, RI; and St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA. She also served as superior and principal at while at St. Patrick in White Haven.
Sister Dolorita served as a prayer minister at St. Agnes Convent in Elmhurst, PA, and the Marian Convent in Scranton.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Thomas, and John, and two sisters, Margaret and Mary.
She is survived by a sister, Sister Mary Bernard, MM, nieces and nephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Archival Remembrance:
Both East and West have happy memories of our beloved Sister Mary Dolorita. In 1904, just after her profession, she was assigned to Coeur d'Alene. These were pioneer days in Idaho. Sister Mary Dolorita labored well for twenty-six years, teaching and performing the many extra tasks necessary in an academy. Her pleasant manner and friendly attitude endeared her to all. Her health was never strong, yet she generously spent herself in God's service. In the East she taught in Renovo, Spangler, and White Haven. In this last mission, she labored for over twenty years. During her years of retirement at St. Agnes' Convent, Elmhurst, and at the Marian Convent, she continued to edify all by her kind, friendly spirit. God called her to Himself as she slept on the morning of May second.
