Sister Maria Vincent Hilbert, IHM

Sister Maria Vincent Hilbert, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, October 12, 1971 at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on July 17, 1909 in Dushore, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary (Marie).  She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Eugenia (Regina) Tourscher Hilbert.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 2, 1927, received the religious habit on December 28, 1927, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1929.

Sister Maria Vincent served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA from 1929 to 1933; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA from 1933 to 1934; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY from 1934 to 1938; Sacred Heart Elementary School  in Jermyn, PA from 1938 to 1943; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA from 1943 to 1944; Mother of Mercy Elementary School in Washington, NC from 1944 to 1946; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD from 1946 to 1951; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ from 1951 to 1955; St. Paul Elementary School in Edgewood, RI from 1955 to 1964; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD from 1962 to 1968; and St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, MD from 1968 to 1971. 

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Maria Vincent served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is survived by cousins.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
