Sister M. Innocenta Rouse, IHM

Sister M. Innocenta Rouse, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on June 26, 1968 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Carroll Rouse, she was born on August 1, 1891 in Dushore, Pennsylvania; and given the name Mary Elizabeth.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1909, received the religious habit on December 28, 1909, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1911.

Sister Innocenta served as a teacher at the following schools: Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1912 to 1919; St. Rosalia in Pittsburgh, PA,  from 1919 to 1922; St. Joseph in Renovo, PA, from 1922 to 1928; St. Patrick in Olyphant, PA,  from 1928 to 1929; St. Cecilia in Wyoming, PA,  from 1929 to 1934; St. John in Pittston, PA,  from 1934 to 1935, 1937 to 1938, and 1946 to 1949; St. Thomas Aqinas in Archbald, PA, from 1935 to 1937 and 1955 to 1957; Holy Rosary in Scranton, PA,  from 1938 to 1941 and 1952 to 1954; St. John the Evangelist in Scranton,PA,  from 1941 to 1942; All Saints in Masontown, PA,  from 1942 to 1943; St. Joseph in Williamsport, PA,  from 1943 to 1946; St. Patrick in Scranton, PA,  from 1949 to 1952; Epiphany in Sayre, PA,  from 1954 to 1955; and St. John in Binghamton, NY, from 1957 to 1960.

From 1960 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph Vincent, Brother Bede, CFX, Brother Innocent, CFX, Thomas Charles, and John Leo; and three sisters, Mary Abigail, Martha Cecilia and Ella; and a nephew, Joseph Gerard.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian burial at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
