Sister Mary Brigida Strome, IHM
Sister Mary Brigida Strome, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, September 5, 1986 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Born on March 22, 1894 in Ashley, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Lydon Strome. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1916, received the religious habit on August 2, 1917, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1919.
Sister Mary Brigida served as a teacher and principal at the following schools: Nativity Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, DE; Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY; Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mt. Holly, NJ; as well as at schools located in Washington, DC.
From 1978 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Frank and Edward Byron; and two sisters, Elizabeth Farrell and Ruth Walsh.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, September 8 with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will be at Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday afternoon or evening.

Our Sister Mary Brigida, died on Friday morning, at Moses Taylor Hospital, after an illness. She was in the 68th year of her religious profession. Sister Brigida's long and illustrious career in education included a nine-year span at Nativity School, this city, where she served as principal, intermediate teacher, and music teacher. She was also principal and teacher at St. Joseph's, Williamsport, and at IHM schools in Wilmington, Delaware; Mount Holly, New Jersey; Poughkeepsie, New York; and Washington, DC. In 1978, she retired to the Marian Convent.
