Sister Virginia Mary Schaefer, IHM

Sister Virginia Mary Schaefer, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Augusta) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, December 1, 1993, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on June 14, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA. She was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Anna Wilson Schaefer.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1944, was received into the novitiate on May 8, 1945, and made her profession of vows on May 8, 1947.

Sister Virginia served as a teacher at schools located in the following cities: Scranton, Pittsburgh and Carbondale, PA; Portland, OR; Coeur d'Alene, ID; and Baltimore, MD.

Sister served as principal at schools located in Pittsburgh and Cresco, PA. 

Sister Virginia also served as served as a parish social minister in Pittsburg, PA; and as an office assistant in the Communications Office at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Schaefer; and a niece, Sister Patricia Schaefer, IHM.

She is survived by five brothers, Raymond, Francis, James, Richard and Donald, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, December 6 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
