Sister M. Seraphine Gallagher, IHM

Sister M. Seraphine Gallagher, IHM, of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Sunday, June 10, 1990 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on July 12, 1897 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and given the name Helen. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Niland Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1919, was received into the novitiate on December 27, 1919, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1921.

After teaching in several elementary schools in Scranton, PA, Sister Seraphine began a career in business education, teaching in a number of high schools located in Pennsylvania and New York, including at St. Rosalia High School in Pittsburgh, PA.

Sisteralso served as a catechetical instructor in St. Agnes Catechetical Center in Forest City, PA, before her retire­ment.

From 1969 until the time of her death,  Sister Seraphine served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Anthony and Michael, and five sisters, Rose Kusebaugh, Mary, Margaret, Jane and Catherine.

She is survived by nieces and nephews. 

The funeral will be Tuesday, June 12 with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, interment to follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania.  Friends may call on Monday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
