Sister M. Amadeus Welton, IHM

Sister M. Amadeus Welton, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on April 8, 1970 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Jeremiah and Catherine Tobin Welton, she was born on August 22, 1888 in Ashley, Pennsylvania; and given the name Margaret Mary. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1906, received the religious habit on July 15, 1908, and made profession of her vows on October 15, 1910.

Sister Amadeus served as a teacher in the following schools: St. John in Scranton, from 1910 to 1911; IHM Academy in Coeur d'Alene, ID, from 1911 to 1920; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, from 1920 to 1921 and from 1963 to 1970; St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, from 1921 to 1923 and 1925 to 1928; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, from 1924 to 1925; St. Paul in Scranton, from 1928 to 1931; St. Dominic in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1931 to 1932; St. Rosalia in Pittsburgh, from 1949 to 1950; St. Mary High in Manhasset, NY, from 1950 to 1954; South Scranton Catholic in Scranton, from 1955 to 1960; and Nativity in Scranton, from 1960 to 1963. She also served as a teacher at St. Ann Catechetical Center in Devon, CT, from 1954 to 1955.

Sister Amadeus served as principal at St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1931 to 1932. From 1932 to 1949, she served as a French and religion teacher at Marywood College in Scranton.

Interment will follow the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
