Sister Mary Marcella Finley, IHM

Sister Mary Marcella Finley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, December 18, 1896 at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on February 23, 1866 in Binghamton, New York, and given the name Elizabeth (Lizzie) Philomena. She was the daughter of Johanna (Joanna) Gorman Finely and the late Philip Finley.  She entered the IHM Congregation on October 1, 1888, received the religious habit on December 27, 1888, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1891.

Sister Mary Marcella served as teacher at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John W., and a sister, Joanna Bridget.

She is survived by four sisters, Mary Ellen (Lala), Adelia (Delia), Katherine Marcella and Alice, and two brothers, Reverend Philip Leo and James, all of New York.

Interment is at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
