Sister Marian Griffiths, IHM

Sister Marian Griffiths, IHM, (Formerly known as Sister M. Linus) of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Monday, March 21, 1990 at Community Medical Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on October 5, 1916 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Mary Emma Opper Griffiths. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1945, was received into the novitiate on May 8, 1946, and made profession of her vows on May 9, 1948.

Sister Marian served at the following schools: St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John Elementary School in Pittston, PA; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; as well as at elementary schools located in Baltimore, MD, and Brooklyn, NY.

Sister Marian also served as a summer librarian at Marywood College in Scranton, PA; support staff member at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA; and as a Telespond Senior Companion at Holy Family Residence in Scranton, PA. 

From 1988 unitl the time of her death, she served as prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Doris.

She is survived by cousins.  

The funeral will be Friday, March 25 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
