Sister M. Francina Dever, IHM

Sister M. Francina Dever, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, January 30, 1985, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on January 29, 1890 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Francis R. and Catherine McQuade Dever.  She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1908, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1911.

Sister Francina served as a speech and music teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA; Sacred Heart of Mary School in Jermyn, PA; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY; and at IHM schools located in La Plata and Baltimore, MD; Forest Hills, and New York City, NY.

Sister also served on the faculty of the speech and music department at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, from 1920 to 1930.

From 1972 until the time of her death, Sister Francina served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Reverend Francis E., and two sisters, Lillian and Anna.

The funeral will be Friday, February 1 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Thursday afternoon or evening.
