Sister M. Bridgid Stokes, IHM

Sister M. Bridgid Stokes, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, February 25, 1871 in Pittston, Pennsylvania.

She was born in 1831 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and given the name Elizabeth.  She entered the IHM Congregation in Reading, Pennsylvania, on February 2, 1860, received the religious habit at St. Peter's Church in Reading on August 8, 1860, and made professsion of her vows on August 22, 1861.

Sister Bridgid served as a teacher (as part of the first faculty) at St. John the Baptist School in Manayunk, Pennsylvania which opened in 1863.

Sister M. Bridgid Stokes is the only known sister from the Immaculata based IHM Congregation that is buried at St. John's Cemetery in Pittston, Pennsylvania.
