Sister M. Lenorus McMurray, IHM
Sister M. Lenorus McMurray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, September 2, 1963 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.
She was born on May 19, 1897 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Rose. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Barrett McMurray. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1915, received the religious habit on December 30, 1915, and made profession of her vows on January 3, 1918.
Sister Lenorus served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1928 to 1930 and 1946 to 1948; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA, from 1930 to 1939; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler, PA, from 1939 to 1940; St. Mary John School in Cresson, PA, from 1940 to 1942; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA, from 1942 to 1944; St. Michael's Industrial School in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1944 to 1946; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1948 to 1950; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, from 1950 to 1951; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA, from 1951 to 1953; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1953 to 1954; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1954 to 1955; Sacred Heart Elementary School in LaPlata, MD, from 1955 to 1956; and St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA from 1956 to 1960.
Sister also served as a cook at St. Patrick's Convent in Spangler, PA, from 1918 to 1920, and Most Holy Rosary Convent in Syracuse, NY, from 1920 to 1928. She was an accomplished seamstress and served in that capacity at the IHM Novitiate in Scranton, PA, from 1960 until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary M. Smith, and a brother, Reverend Patrick.
She is survived by a sister Callistus of Scranton, PA, a brother, Joseph of Buffalo, NY, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

Archival Remembrance:
For years, Sister M. Lenorus McMurray was a sick Sister, bravely trying to carry on her work. Doubtless, she struggled through school days when she endured great weakness and much pain. When her illness made it necessary for her to leave school work, she was assigned to Marywood. There she labored day by day sewing for our new novitiate. She was a meticulous worker, and the product of her hands was always well done. Moreover, she was generous in her unsolicited offers to mend clothing for other Sisters, and she thus earned their prayerful gratitude. In her long sickness, she bore suffering patiently, and as long as she was able, she was faithful to her religious exercises. She herself asked to be anointed, and like the faithful servants, she quietly awaited God's summons. May God grant her eternal rest.
