Sister M. Chrysostom Roberts, IHM

Sister M. Chrysostom Roberts, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, March 19, 1989, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

Daughter of the late John B. and Catherine G. Walsh Roberts, she was born on August 24, 1914 in Utica, New York.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1940, was received into the novitiate on May 8, 1941, and made profession of her vows on May 10, 1943.

Sister Chrysostom began her teaching career as a high school business teacher in Marywood Seminary, where she taught for many years. At the same time, she served as assistant to the Secretary-General of the IHM Congregation. She also taught at the following schools: St. Mark High School in Wilmington, Delaware; St. Alphonsus and Cathedral High Schools in New York City.

Sister also served on the support staff of the IHM Communications Office at the IHM Center in Scranton, from 1980 to 1986.

From 1986 until the time of her death, she served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
