Sister M. Josephine Connerton, IHM

Sister M. Josephine Connerton, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, November 16, 1925, at Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 

She was born on March 17, 1865 in Sligo, Ireland, and given the name Sarah. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Ellen McLaughlin Connerton. She immigrated to the United States with her family, first settling in Scranton, PA, for many years, before moving to Syracuse, NY.  She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1890, and made profession of her vows on April 3, 1893.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Michael J. and Delia Connerton of Scranton, PA, a nephew, Michael Robert Connerton of Scranton, PA, and a grandniece and grandnephew.

The funeral will be on Thursday, November 19, at the Marywood College Chapel in Scranton.  Interment will follow at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Friends may call on Wednesday at the IHM Motherhouse at Marywood College.

The funeral took place in the college chapel in the presence of relatives and friends of the deceased sister, and faculty and students of the college and seminary. Solemn high mass of requiem was celebrated by Rev. William Cawley of Matamoras, a cousin of Sister Josephine.  Pallbearers: C. Boland; Thomas Boland; A. Savella; William McDonald; P.A. Andrew; M.J. Neary; P.W. Manley, Edward Howley; Joseph P. Jordan; John Brown; P.H. Haggerty and  A. Haggerty.  Funeral director was John Durkan.
