Sister M. Cecilius McHale, IHM

Sister M. Cecilius McHale, IHM, of the Congregation of Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, February 18, 1990, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on June 25, 1901 in Jermyn, Pennsylvania, and given the name Venantia. She was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Hannah Murphy McHale.  She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1920, received the religious habit on August 2, 1920, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1922.

Sister Cecilius served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary  School in Wyoming, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Edgewood, RI: Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD; and St. Mary Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD; as well as schools located in New York, NY, Baltimore and La Plata, MD.

Sister also served on the support staff at the Marian Convent, from 1972 to 1981.

From 1981 until the time of her death, Sister Cecilius served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by three brothers, Frank, William, and Hubert, and two sisters, Blanche Boylan and Gertrude Weil.

She is survived by nieces and cousins. 

The funeral will be Monday, February 19 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Sunday afternoon or evening.
