Sister Marie Helene Parks, IHM

Sister Marie Helene Parks, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, July 31, 1974 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after a short illness.

She was born on June 26, 1909 in Renovo, Pennsylvania, and given the name Monica Fay. She was the daughter of the late John and Cora Marie Masseau Parks. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1927, received the religious habit on December 28, 1927, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1929.

Sister Marie Helene served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1929 to 1934; St. Raymond Elementary School in Lynbrook, NY, from 1934 to 1943; Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY, from 1943 to 1947; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1947 to 1956; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA, from 1956 to 1957; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1962 to 1968; and St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1970 to 1972.  

Sister served as the principal at the following schools: Christ the King Elementary School in Dunmore, PA, from 1968 to 1969; and Little Flower Elementary School in Bethesda, MD, from 1969 to 1970.

From 1972 until the time of her death, Sister Marie Helene served as a prayer minister.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James.

She is survived by a brother, John, and a nephew.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
