Sister Agnes Marie Johnson, IHM

Sister Agnes Marie Johnson, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, May 7, 1977 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on July 2, 1898 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and given the name Anne Ignatia. She was the daughter of the late James and Anna Coyne Johnson. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1920, received the religious habit on December 28, 1920, and made profession of her vows on December 28, 1922.

Sister Agnes Marie served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA, from 1923 to 1925; St. Justin Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1925 to 1930; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1930 to 1935; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1935 to 1938; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New Yor, NY, from 1947 to 1959; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, NY, from 1959 to 1960; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1960 to 1970; and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA, from 1970 to 1971.  

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Agnes Marie served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Sister M. Virginia, IHM

She is survived by a sister, Sister M. Anna Clare, IHM, nieces and nephews, and grandnephews.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
