Sister M. Loretto Halpin, IHM

Sister M. Loretto Halpin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 17, 1966 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylania.

She was born on July 11, 1893 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary Florence Frances. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Barbara O'Hara Halpin. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 1, 1920, received the religious habit on August 2, 1920, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1922.

Sister Loretto served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Ashville, PA, from 1922 to 1924; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA, from 1924 to 1927; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA, from 1927 to 1932; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1932 to 1935; St. Michael's School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1935 to 1936; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA, from 1937 to 1938; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1938 to 1941; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1941 to 1942; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA, from 1942 to 1943; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA, from 1943 to 1944; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA, from 1950 to 1952; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA, from 1952 to 1953; and Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY, from 1953 to 1954.

From 1954 until the time of her death, Sister Loretto served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
