Sister M. Elvira Manze, IHM

Sister M. Elvira Manze, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, May 10, 1985 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on January 15, 1910 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Elvira Siconolfi Manze, and the step-daughter of the late Bianca Feudeleis Manze.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 24, 1927, received the reli­gious habit on August 15, 1927, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1929.

Sister Elvira served as a primary grade teacher at the following schools: St. Cecilia in Wyoming, PA; St. Mary in Avoca, PA; St. John the Evangelist in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary in Scranton, PA; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Altoona, PA; and at schools located in New York City, NY, Baltimore, MD, and Williamsport and Lock Haven, PA. Her most recent assignment was as a teacher's assistant at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael.

She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Florence Rossi of Scranton, PA, Mrs. Esther Haness of Plainfield, NJ, and Mrs. Elvira Matusiak of Chicago, IL, two brothers, Vincent Manze of Scranton, PA and Gerard Manze, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, May 13 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday afternoon or evening.
