Sister M. Norita Corrigan, IHM

Sister M. Norita Corrigan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, March 9, 2003 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on June 5, 1919 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Martha.  She was the daughter of the late Luke and Kathryn Fenton Corrigan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1937, made temporary profession of her vows on May 7, 1940, and final profession of her vows on August 1, 1943.

Sister Norita served as a teacher at St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1956 to 1957. She served as a teacher and/or principal at the following schools: St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY; St. Paul School in Cranston, RI; as well as schools located in Brooklyn, Manhasset, and Forest Hills, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; and Wilmington, DE.

Sister also served as the director of religious education at St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA, from 1983 to 1997.

From 1997 until the time of her death, Sister Norita served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in administration/supervision from Duquesne University.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Luke, and two sisters, Kathryn and Mary Connolly.

She is survived by three sisters, Nancy Smith, Kitty Baas and Eleanor Day all of Scranton, PA, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday after 2:00 p.m.
