Sister Anthony Maria Naylor, IHM

Sister Anthony Maria Naylor, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Friday, December 7, 1984 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness. 

She was born on January 29, 1902 in Providence, Rhode Island, and given the name Esther.  She was the daughter of the late William and Laura Parenteau Naylor.  She entered the IHM Congregation on June 24, 1926, made temporary profession of her vows on January 2, 1929, and made final profession of her vows on August 2, 1932.

Sister Anthony Maria taught music and primary grades at the following schools: St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna, PA, in 1929; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1929 to 1941; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1941 to 1947; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1953 to 1954; Epiphany School in Sayre, PA, from 1955 to 1957; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA, from 1957 to 1959; and Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1959 to 1977.  

Sister also served as an instructor at St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA, in 1954.

From 1977 until the time of her death, Sister Anthony Maria served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Walter.

She is survived by five sisters, Isabel McCormick, Laura Naylor, Elizabeth Allen, Beatrice Smith, all of Providence, Rhode Island, and Gertrude Cain of Esmond, Rhode Island, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, December 10 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel.  Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent Sunday afternoon or evening.
