Sister M. Carlotta Kaschalk, IHM

Sister M. Carlotta Kaschalk, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, June 28, 2002 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania. 

She was born on July 15, 1905 in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, and given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Kocis Kaschalk. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1926, made temporary profession of her vows on August 15, 1928, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1932.

Sister Carlotta served as a housekeeper at the following: St. Ann's Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1926 to 1928; St. Patrick's Convent in Olyphant, PA, from 1928 to 1933; Holy Rosary Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1934 to 1939; St. Ignatius Convent in Kingston, PA, from 1939 to 1941; Cathedral Convent in Scranton, PA, from 1951 to 1952; St. Joseph's Center in Scranton, PA, from 1952 to 1955; St. Agnes Place in Moscow, PA, from 1955 to 1956; St. Peter's Convent in Wellsboro, PA, from 1956 to 1957; Holy Name of Mary Convent in Montrose, PA, from 1957 to 1962; Sacred Heart Convent in Mt. Holly, NJ; and in convents located in New York.

From 1962 until the time of her death, Sister Carlotta served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Stretchko, Ann Cook, Elizabeth Palencsar and Helen Halkovich, and seven brothers, Andrew, Stephen, Joseph, Henry, John, Adam and Anthony.

She is survived by a brother, Martin of Nanty-Glo, PA, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m.
