Sister M. Willemyn Gambrill, IHM

Sister M. Willemyn Gambrill, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the IHM, died Saturday, October 31, 1992, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after a brief illness.

She was born on February 19, 1916 in Dundalk, Maryland, and was the daughter of the late William and Mary Kelly Gambrill.  She entered the IHM Congre­gation on February 2, 1935, received the religious habit on August 2, 1935, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1937.

Sister Willemyn served as a teacher in the following schools: All Saints High School in Masontown, PA; St. Basil High School in Dushore, PA; and St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA.

Sister served as principal at the following schools: St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA; and St. Joseph High School in Williamsport, PA.

Within the PA Diocese of Scranton, Sister Willemyn became a secondary school consultant in 1969, and later was the assistant superintenent of secondary schools.

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister served as director of personnel services, director of the campus shop, and college secretary.

Sister Willemyn also served as an administrative secretary at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College, a Bachelor of Science degree in library science from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts degree in education at Villanova University. She did further graduate work during her long career in education.

Sister Willemyn served as secretary to the Board of Trustees of Marywood College, was a member of the Sisters Advisory Council of the Scranton Diocese, the Diocesan Collaboration Committee, and was active in the Tri-Conference Appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious.

She is preceded in death by nine brothers,  William, John, Raymond, Thomas, Robert, Charles, Nelson, Eldred, and Clarence, two sisters, Abigail Mannion and Kathryn E. Kemp, a niece, Betty Crews, and a nephew, Ray Mannion.

She is survived by two nephews, Raymond and Michael Gambrill, and three nieces, Geraldine Paturzo, Patricia Wisnewski, and Margaret Jarman. 

The funeral will be Tuesday, November 3 with Mass of Christian Burial in the IHM Center Chapel at Marywood at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Tuesday afternoon.
