Sister Maria Catherine Walsh, IHM

Sister Maria Catherine Walsh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, April 17, 1987, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on May 27, 1903 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and was the daughter of the late Walter and Honora Whalen Walsh.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1923, received the religious habit on December 28, 1923, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1925.

Sister Maria Catherine served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; St. Patrick in Olyphant, PA; St. Cecilia in Exeter, PA; and at St. Ann in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary in Scranton, PA; and St. Mary of Mount Carmel in Dunmore, PA.

Sister also served in the medical records department at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA; and on the support staff of the IHM Generalate in Scranton, PA

From 1979 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is survived by first cousin, Mrs. Helen Whalen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and several other cousins.

The funeral will be Tuesday, April 21 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
