Sister M. Evangela O'Malley, IHM

Sister M. Evangela O'Malley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Friday, July 13, 1990, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on December 7, 1905 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ann Law O'Malley. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 24, 1927, received the religious habit on December 28, 1927, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1929.

Sister Evangela served as a primary grade teacher at the following schools: St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Wyoming, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; and St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA. She also served as a small group instructor at Nativity School Elementary School in Scranton, PA.

From 1985 until the time of her death, Sister Evangela served in prayer ministry at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, George, Thomas, and Austin, and two sisters, Anna Fennell and Genevieve Hannon.

She is survived by nieces and cousins.

The funeral will be Monday, July 16 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday afternoon or evening.
