Sister M. Alfred Judge, IHM

Sister M. Alfred Judge, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Friday, August 28, 1981 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on December 31, 1897 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Bridget Coughlin Judge.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1915, received the religious habit on July 6, 1915, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1917.

Sister Alfred served as a teacher at the following local schools: St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; Bishop Klonowski High School in Scranton, PA; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY; St. Leo School in Ashley, PA; and St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; as well as at schools located in Brooklyn, NY; and Williamsport, PA.  Her last assignment was at St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA.

From 1979 until the time of her death, Sister Alfred served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Bartholomew Thomas, and two sisters, Monica and Sister M. Bartholomew, IHM.

She is survived by nephew, Paul Leonard, and a niece, Mrs. John O'Malley of Pittston, PA.

The funeral will be Monday, August 31 with Mass of Christian Burial in the Marian Convent Chapel at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Sunday afternoon, 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. or evening, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
