Sister M. Theresa Gabriel Dolan, IHM
Sister M. Theresa Gabriel Dolan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, December 11, 1964 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on November 26, 1897 in Ireland, and given the name Emma. She was the daughter of the late James and Mary Dolan. The family later immigrated to the United States, and settled in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1924, received the religious habit on December 28, 1924, and made profession of vows on August 15, 1926.
Sister Theresa Gabriel served as a domestic (cook) at the following: St. Lawrence Convent in Portland, OR, from 1926 to 1928; St. Joseph's Shelter in Scranton, PA, from 1928 to 1935; St. Alphonsus Convent in New York City, NY, from 1935 to 1936; St. John's Home in Cresson, PA, from 1936 to 1940; St. John the Evangelist Convent in Pittston, PA, from 1940 to 1943; St. Mary of the Mount Convent in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1943 to 1952; St. Ann Convent in Devon, CT, from 1952 to 1953; and St. Michael's Industrial School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1953 to 1957.
From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Theresa Gabriel served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

At the time of her entrance to our novitiate, Sister Theresa Gabriel Dolan's pastor in Roxbury, Massachusetts, wrote that he "was recommending a young woman of deep religious character. She is a pious person and a devout Catholic. She is humble, very industrious, and exceptionally willing." Sister Theresa Gabriel's life in our Congregation proved the truth of her pastor's words. Despite a chronic bronchial condition, she toiled for thirty-three years in the service of our Congregation. Possessed of a happy disposition, it was her delight to tell a humorous story, and she found much joy in the laughing response it evoked. Quietly and peacefully, God's final summons came to her. May God have mercy on her pious, humble soul.
