Sister M. Emerentia Gallagher, IHM

Sister M. Emerentia Gallagher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, November 28, 1995 at the Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

She was born on October 20, 1907 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, and given the name Mary E. She was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Mary Murphy Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 22, 1937, made temporary profession of her vows on August 8, 1939, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1942. 

Sister Emerentia served as a teacher at the following schools: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary School in Rocky Mount, NC, and at St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY.

At St. Joseph's Hospital in Carbondale, PA, Sister Emerentia also served as an x-ray technician for 39 years, and later worked in the medical records department.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph and Paul, and a sister, Katherine.

She is survived by a cousin, Ann Truex of Carbondale, PA, and nephews, Ernest P. Gallagher of  Endicott, NY, and Joseph Gallagher of Concord, NC.

Interment is at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
