Sister Marie Louise Langan, IHM

Sister Marie Louise Langan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, August 14, 1984, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an extended illness.

She was born on February 2, 1907 in Jessup, PA, and given the name Mary.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Gallagher Langan.  She entered the IHM Congregation on March 17, 1923, received the religious habit on August 15, 1923, and made profession of vows on August 15, 1925.

Sister Marie Louise served as a teacher at the following schools: Immaculate Conception in Lock Haven, PA, from 1925 to 1926; St. Dominic in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1926 to 1938; St. John in Pittston, PA, from 1938 to 1941; St. Thomas Aquinas in Archbald, PA, from 1941 to 1944; St. Patrick in Scranton, PA, from 1944 to 1945; St. Patrick in Olyphant, PA, from 1945 to 1956; St. Paul in Edgewood, RI, from 1956 to 1960; and Cathedral in Scranton, PA, from 1960 to 1968.  

Sister also served as an instructor at St. Agnes Catechetical Center in Forest City, PA.

From 1984 until the time of her death, Sister Marie Louise served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She is survived by a cousin, Aaron J. Walker of Peckville, PA, and by the members of the IHM Congregation.

The funeral will be Friday, August 17 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel.  Interment will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow.  Friends my call at the Marian Covent Thursday afternoon or evening.
