Sister M. Anselmo Murray, IHM
Sister M. Anselmo Murray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, November 10, 1959, at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, New York.
She was born on June 13, 1893 in Geneva, New York, and given the name Ella Charlotte. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Bridget McNulty Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on April 13, 1914, received the religious habit on August 3, 1914, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1916.
Sister Anselmo was a accomplished musician and served as a music teacher at the following schools: St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1916 to 1925; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA, from 1925 to 1931; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA, from 1931 to 1937; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1937 to 1944; St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA, from 1944 to 1945; St. Michael's School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA, from 1945 to 1947; St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA, from 1947 to 1950; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA, from 1950 to 1953 and 1955 to 1956; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA, from 1953 to 1955; and St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, in 1957.
Sister also served as a catechetical instructor at St. Hugh's Catechetical Center in Hughesville, PA, from 1956 to 1957.
From 1957 until the time of her death, Sister Anselmo served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA,.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, Charles, Lawrence, and Vincent.
She is survived by a brother, Paul, three sisters, Margaret, Sylvia, and Dorothy Howard, nieces and nephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.

To all our Sisters who were privileged to know her, Sister M. Anselmo Murray is remembered for her gentle and prayerful spirit. Her ever-ready smile was a token of the peace that reigned in her soul. Ill health was her almost constant companion; but she labored well in her assigned tasks. Her beautiful example as a religious won for the deep affection of her Sisters. The Marian Convent is redolent of her gracious, holy way. St. Francis Hospital, when she died, will long remember this cultured, holy Sister, whose courtesy and appreciation were manifested to all. May our dear Sister Anselmo rest in peace.
