Sister M. Martina Williams, IHM

Sister M. Martina Williams, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Daughter of the late Aloysius and Catherine Dunkley Williams, she was born on April 11, 1913 in New York, NY, and given the name Catherine.  She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1930, made her temporary profession of vows on April 24, 1933, and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1936.

Sister Martina served as a teacher at the following schools: Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1933 to 1934; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1956 to 1959; Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mount Holly, NJ; St. Ann Elementary School in Nyack, NY; St. Ephrem in Brooklyn, NY; as well as schools located in Pittsburgh, PA; and Baltimore, MD.

She served as a prayer minister in Archbald, PA, from 1988 to 1990, and at the Marian Convent from 1990 until the time of her death. 

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Joseph, and David; and three sisters, Agnes, Anna, and May.

She is survived by nephews and nieces including, Donald Williams of Voorhees, NJ; John Williams of Manorville, NY; Gerard Williams of Old Bridge, NJ; Marilyn Milton of Southington, CT; Martina Bernhardt of Little Egg Harbor, NJ; and Francina Wilton of Bayonne, NJ.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 18 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.  Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday, October 17, between 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
