Sister M. Fridolin McLaughlin, IHM

Sister M. Fridolin McLaughlin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Saturday, July 11, 1981, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on November 3, 1895 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and given the name Julia Cecelia. She was the daughter of the late Martin J. and Mary Jane McAndrew McLaughlin. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 24, 1917, received the religious habit on August 2 1917, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1919.

Sister Fridolin served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Leo School in Ashley, PA; St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA; St. Alphonsus School in New York, NY; St. Raymond School in Lynbrook, NY; St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA; Holy Rosary School in Scranton, PA; Most Holy Rosary School in Syracuse, NY; and at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA.

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister also served as the manager of the college bookstore, and later as the Postmistress, from 1950 until 1970.

From 1970 until the time of her death, Sister Fridolin served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Michael, John Joseph, James Patrick, and Francis Xavier, and five sisters, Ellen, Ann Marie, Mary Ellen, Agnes Collette, and Sara Margaret Gallagher.

She is survived by a brother, Martin J. of Brodheadsville, PA, and several nieces and nephews, including Peter J. Gallagher of Ossining, NY, and Patricia Van Dorn.

The funeral will be Tuesday, July 14 with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent Chapel at 9:30 a.m followed by interment at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
